Part Time Assistant Site Supervisor

Overview

Weald Rise Primary School is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and friendly individual to join the premises team for our school. The candidate must be resourceful, enthusiastic, proactive and have a positive outgoing nature; they should have good practical skills (ideally from a trade background such as joiner/plumber) and be knowledgeable of school health and safety and safeguarding requirements. The successful candidate will have excellent communications skills and be able to prioritise tasks to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Experience of working in a school or similar environment useful but not essential. Willingness to participate in relevant training essential. 

Personal attributes

1. EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 

Essential 

• Basic training and / or experience in one or more of the following areas: general maintenance, plumbing, electrical / building maintenance, heating systems, grounds works. 

Desirable 

• Ideally have a trade background e.g. joiner/plumber etc. 

• Relevant qualification or training relating to cleaning, caretaking, First Aid and / or Health & Safety 

2. EXPERIENCE 

Essential 

• Experience of working in a caretaking role in a school or similar environment. 

• Experience of working effectively both independently and as part of a team. 

Desirable 

• Experience of working with children and families in a school setting. 

• Experience of liaising with contractors and managing external contractors. 

3. JOB RELATED KNOWLEDGE, APTITUDES AND SKILLS 

Essential 

• Understanding of the main Health & Safety Regulations, including COSHH and risk assessment, and how these apply within a school environment. 

• Ability to undertake a range of site supervision and cleaning duties. 

• Ability to deal with manual handling. 

• The ability to demonstrate good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all members of the school community and external contractors etc. 

• Ability to undertake minor repairs and improvements within the school. 

• Ability to work independently or as part of a team, and to use own initiative in a range of situations. 

• Ability to work with tact and diplomacy. 

• Ability to communicate and interact positively with pupils, parents and colleagues. 

• Ability to organise, prioritise and complete tasks efficiently. 

4. PERSONAL QUALITIES 

Essential 

• Willingness to participate in the life of the school. 

• Confidence, warmth, sensitivity, reliability, maturity, flexibility and enthusiasm. 

• Positive attitude towards the whole school community. 

• Good interpersonal skills, common sense and initiative. 

• Willingness to work outside normal working hours and to respond to emergencies. 

• Interest in professional self-development. 

• Be flexible to cover for the Site Supervisor’s absence if required. 

Salary & Benefits

GO4 pt. 13-16 depending on experience
